Lace and Love for a Friend....

Lace on card is something that I tried for the first time. Yet another first for me was the use of distress inks. I purchased my first pair of distress inks sometime in Feb and since then haven't been able to use them. I'd been out of town, on my return got busy with settling back into a routine, especially with my dear daughter's school having closed for spring break here!! Now the new session reopens from Tuesday and am really looking forward to some quiet time when i can do some crafty stuff!!

Coming back to this card. I used an old sketch from the Mojo Monday blog. I wanted to use this blue card stock I had with me and also use some patterned paper from Bo Bunny that I'd recently acquired. The lace was something I bought a long time ago from an exhibition. Its some kind of hand made lace from Sri Lanka crafted by the Sinhalese women.  I think using lace has given the card a different kinda effect!! I also tried my hand at distressing those small green triangles on the top corners of the card and the edge of the white base card stock too!! I don't think that its very clear in the picture though!

Once the card was ready, I wanted to use the distress ink with a stamp and so I thought of using this butterfly stamp with the Vintage Photo distress ink on the inside of the card. I needed to break the monotony of white on the inside of the card and thought that using this stamp would be ideal.....i think the effect is quite good. What do you think?

A closer look at the butterflies stamped on the inside. Now I know why all the talented women out there swear by distress inks.....they add a different dimension to stamps. and cards in general i think!! :-)

p.s. I also figured that I should increase the size of the pictures on the blog!! The trials and tribulations of a (re)new(ed) blogger.......Phew!!

A CAS Card....

Hello everyone....its been a long time since I posted something here....its not that I haven't been crafting....I have....but I am yet to get used to the blogging!! I feel lost for words when it comes to that part. Anyway...I have made a few resolutions....craft more, blog more about my creations, follow some very great blogs on a regular basis and also take part in a few challenges!!

In the time that I've been MIA, I've also been reading up quite a few blogs, trying out a lot of new stuff and discovering that I don't really need a lot of expensive punches and tools to actually come out with some decent work. Thanks to a lot of talented ladies out there and their blogs and vlogs.

I've made a few cards in the past few weeks and I'll be putting them up one at a time on the blog.

For now here's a CAS card that I tried. You will not believe it, but i only recently figured out what a CAS card was!! Can you beat that??!! Anyway...i guess that's how one learns. :-)

The sketch I used was from the blog - CAS(E) that Sketch.

Here's my take on their sketch for the week. I have used a plain white background and the patterned papers are from Bo Bunny. For the sentiment I had something on the lines of  - "You are my sunshine" in mind. But then I thought a simple Hi! would be the best!! The sun peeping out of the clouds to say hi!! :-)

Here's another view of the card. The cloud is hand cut. I do not have either die cuts or punches or anything of that sort!! :-)

A closer view of the sentiment, the cloud and the sun.

By the way the sentiment is made with a stencil that I made. I do not have many stamp sets and over the last few weeks, while I was mulling over how to best use the resources that I have, I figured that I could use things that were not actually stamps, as stamps. So i made the stencil for the sentiment and simply used a black sketch pen to fill it. And the sun that you see in this card is also not really a stamp, but something I used as a stamp! I had purchased some kind of a basic embossing tool....more like something kids could use to emboss paper....it looks like a stapler, the difference being that you fix these discs, with the embossing design, on both hands of the stapler, insert paper between them and press hard....the design on the disc gets embossed on the paper.....and one of the discs in that set was this sun. I just used some yellow ink on it and used it as a stamp!! I think it turned out pretty nice. What do you think?
